Texturing Once an accurate UV map has been made, it can be used to create a texture for the 3D model. The textures themselves are 2D images created in art applications like Photoshop. During this stage colours, highlights, and various effects are applied to the model. Often the use of multiple maps like may be needed to obtain the desired result in a texture. It’s essentially a series of instructions directing how the light should interact with the model. Without this process, no light would react with the model and it would not be visible. There are a vast array of Shaders used in a 3D production pipeline. They are necessary to replicate the many types of ways light interacts with different surfaces in the real world. Image: Rigging After the model has been textured, it is almost ready to animate, but first it needs to be fitted with a sort of skeleton that will determine how the model will move. This rig will allow the animators to move and pose the model and also restrict unwanted or unrealistic movement in a character.
